Be part of Global Solstice Movement Meditation that creates a yoga wave around the globe!

Thursday, December 06, 2012

Dear Friends,

Just over a week ago, I was asked by my friends Chris Decker, founder of Earthdance and the UPLIFT2012 and Stephen Dinan of The Shift Network and BIRTH2012 as well as Debra Guisti of the Synthesis Festival at Chitzen Itza to help spread the word about the worldwide meditations that are happening over four days and concentrated around the Sosltice Dec. 21-22nd.

The Global Mala Project is assisting in spreading the word of this simple action:
Offer your meditation as part of the positive emerging collective consciousness that is being held by indigenous leaders, spiritual communities, gatherings at sacred sites, yoga malas in yoga studios, family and personal meditation.

Please join us in your own way wherever you are around the world to be part of the meditations going on over the Solstice weekend. My homepage at has information on how to lead a yoga mala.

1) Whether you will be in your own home or want to gather community or perhaps are already offering a Solstice class, please connect with and sign-up your event.
2) Please  forward the flyer to anyone in your community to help spread the word. Click here to view / download
3) Please forward on Facebook. Click here to connect to the event.
4) If you are in the Los Angeles area, please join us at Exhale. Details here.

Thank you for your connection and helping to spread the word. I am here to support any goodwork you are offering.

Love all ways,
Yours in Service

Dear Friends,

It is the sacred Friday energy of lighting the candles and igniting a different rhythm.

I am very happy to be part of the worldwide synchronization of the Winter Solstice 2012.
Our Rebirth of the Light In-town Solstice Retreat with Dave Stringer, Donna De Lory, Demetri Velisarius, and Global Sonic DJ Fabian Alsultany is happening from 2-10pm at Exhale on the 21st as part of four days of worldwide activities. We will continue at Agape that night and I will be helping activate the yoga community for the first sunrise meditation at 7:00 am at Agape with Donna De Lory on Dec. 22nd which will be part of the global telecast that is happening through More about this all next week.

This retreat will be the culmination of our Ten Days of Peace from 12-12-12 to the Winter Solstice. I am very happy to welcome friend and tribal artist Deb Rubin to Exhale at the same time for a women's gathering. All is below.

Light your inner and outer lamp.

Thanksgiving Blessings

Wednesday, November 21, 2012
At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person.
Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

- Albert Schweitzer

Dear Friends,

I am really really grateful for you all. You keep our spark going here. I think everyone on the teaching path knows this. Like the last ten days at Exhale. The presence of every student-friend was really inspiring - the way you show up with openness, adventure -  your heart, breath, sweat and soul.

Without you, there is no circle. Like musicians showing up to play with no dancers. You ignite the breath. You have made this path really satisfying on an inner level - the sense that our movement is part of a larger movement. You must know that truly and sincerely.

I am grateful to my bones to be in a community where we can cultivate peace and are not living in fear. We are able to practice without being afraid of expression, our bodies, men and women practicing in the same room. We have spiritual freedom, freedom of movement, music, speech, coming together. This is not a right everywhere. In fact, in Mali right now where some of the greatest musicians and dancers in the world live - music and dance is once again illegal in some parts punishable by violence and imprisionment. I am grateful for the freedom to pray for peace with our whole bodies and not be afraid to walk out our doors.

I give thanks that we have enough to give back. We are supporting the collective classes that are being organized around the country all month for those who need support from Hurricane Sandy in NJ and NY organized through Debbie Kaminsky and Seane Corn through Off the Mat. Thank you yoginis. Please join us for a donation class tomorrow for Thanksgiving Day at 10:30 a.m. at Exhale to stoke our inner fire in peace.

Also save the date for the the Winter Solstice Retreat on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Exhale!  Yoginis please join us on Dec. 15th as we offer a special class with incredible SFTribal movement artist Debra Rubin.

We are offering a special online program Shanti Sadhana - Ten Days for Peace. This is a potent meditation practice requiring only 30 minutes a day to bring into your life from 12-12-12 to 12-21-12.

So grateful for Kristen Townsend - the PULSE newsletter editor, and our new team at Samudra including Glenisse Pagan for Teacher Training and Julian Rea as Media Coordinator (good things coming in 2013) and all the amazing Prana Flow open community of teachers, mentors and friends. Maha pranams and gratitude to my beloved, family and Teachers you are my spark, fuel and shared flame.

Tender love to you to you all,
Let the feasting begin in remembrance, joy and gratitude!

Full Moon Blessings

Monday, October 29, 2012
Dear Friends,

I hope you are in your fullness as we open to one of the last of the three full moons over the next six weeks till the Winter Solstice 2012. We have been in very steady and grounded practice here in Kerala - mantra, meditation, massage, kalari, prana flow in our 10-days of misty, cloudy, sprinkling, nourishing yet tropical warmth here - my favorite experience of Kerala yet. We went to the Shiva-Devi-Ganesh temple last night to throw coconut offerings walking in the misty rain. It has been so good for our sadhana.
With the Hurricane Sandy and election upon us in the USA, let us keep steady in our prayers, our tender human truths, remember our ancestors and stay clear in our actions as we show up and VOTE!

Howl for Halloween with the kiddies…

See you at Exhale soon if you are local for the New Moon and Diwali, the festival of lights.

So happy to welcome an incredible group.

Love all ways,

Victory to the Mother!

Thursday, October 25, 2012
Dear friends,

Victory to the Mother! The last day of Navaratri, Vijaya Dasami  was part of our initiation of new students  ceremony today in the Kalari!  Each student  sitting before the altar first wrote a Ganesh mantra
as a way of connecting to Saraswati, knowledge and the auspicious new cycle.

We then offered respect to the Gurukaal lineage and then some were introduced to new weapons.

I received unexpectedly the first steel blade weapon with great respect and learned the movements with my teachers. I am vibrating in a deep, settled and dedicated way and can see the transformation during these 10 days in my life as mirrored in through many people's lives in small and large ways:
We all have released some hinderances. We have all awakened to some deeper truths. We have all re-membered and activated a creative potency and are opening to a new cycle that will be given time for integration and then emerge in the coming months if we are able to follow the guidance we have received. We lost some great beings - freedom fighters - George McGovern and freedom dancer Gabrielle Roth. Victory to the Mother!!!

As we bring closure to our altars and this process, what is the samkalpa, dedication that can connect us to the deeper movement that we are all going to pass through for the rest of Fall into the new year. Let us write down all that we learned and rededicate ourselves to our individual and collective path with a sense of greater service to the source energy of life on our sacred blue planet as we voyage through the infinite space as a bead turning in the cosmic mala.

On Oct. 31st, it will only be six weeks left of the year.
Let us awaken now and forever to the deepest and extraordinary love that embraces every experience
we could ever have or envision. We are her sons and daughters - she dances through us. Jai Jai Ma!!!!

India Pilgrimage and The Breath of Durga's Tiger!

Monday, October 08, 2012
Dear Friends,

I am here at home, being a Mama before heading out for Shakti pilgrimage to India next week.

First we are heading to NYC to support the wonderful community through Sonic Yoga (Lauren Hanna, Twee Merrigan, Tracey Mohr, Jeffrey Duval, Elitza Datcheva and Lori McCalister) and initiate the upcoming Navaratri cycle (see below).

On Sunday, we then head towards Manali for Guru Padmasambhava and his consort Lady Mandarava's Cave where Demetri will stay for Dzogchen retreat with Lama Tsultrim. In this region, there is one of the 52 Shakti Pithas there called Naina Devi (the eye of the Goddess) where I will begin our the pilgrimage for Navaratri before heading to Kerala for the rest of the 10-day shakti fest and study Kalaripayattu with my teachers and support our Kerala Shakti Retreat with folks coming from all over the world.

This is a dream come true as it has been 20 years since I experienced Navaratri in India while a student. I will share all of this experience with you through our group and some post through the PULSE. Our beloved Maria Garre will be in India as well climbing Durga's peak.

May we stay grounded and inspired during this fertile transition to fall.

Global Mala Celebration

Friday, September 21, 2012
Dear Friends on the Path,

The Fall Equinox is here and we just offered a Global Mala from our retreat in the ancient Herault valley in Southern France where caves, extraordinary cathedrals and river gorges brought us into the earth power.
Thank you to those who joined us live for the Yoga Mala and an amazing group of teachers from all over Europe.

There will be a live stream of the Global Mala in Newark on Sunday if you would like to tap in wherever you are as we connect with the thousands of UN international peace projects around the world.

Our new series on the Danda and the Lotus begins with this new cycle.
May your creative energy flourish and peace prevail on earth…

Shanah Tovah!
Blessings in all directions,

New Moon Blessings

Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Dear Global Friends on the Path,

A new moon and the Fall Equinox are upon us initiating the final seasonal turn of the year.  We offer you our best harvest and the seeds for 2013.

This year the Global Mala for Peace will have over hundred global mala events around the world.  The Global Mala is an opportunity to connect with the yoga community at large: across all borders, all styles of yoga, forms of yoga. This year I will be joining the New Jersey Global Mala which takes place in the $24 million newly renovated, Newark Public School's New School Stadium.  There is plenty of space for the more than 1000 attendees we expect on Sunday, September 23rd.  Global Mala NJ will run simultaneously with Yoga Festival by the Sea Global Mala event in Asbury Park.  There will be live streaming.  Together, this will be the largest yoga event in the Garden State, becoming one community.
