YEA for Earth Day

Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Dear Friends,

This weekend is Earth Day and the Tadasana Festival is a epic gathering of the Southern California community and beyond on the ocean for a green festival with an extraordinary gathering of teachers and world music artists. If you are local, come out and support this extraordinary gathering with great evening events too. I will be offering open classes on Saturday and all next week so I look forward to connecting with my local friends.
Check out the Yoga Energy Activism section below. Since I started, our family has reduced our garbage to next to nothing. Check out our trash facts below, print it out and put it near your garbage to keep the consciousness around our recycling of energy high.

For the Earth,

All Love,

Dear Friends on the Path,

We just returned from Baja for the first energy regeneration retreat - camping out on the beautiful coastline of Sea of Cortez.

* natural light  - under the full moon and no electricity (except some DJ speakers' solar-powered)
* raw food prepared only with solar energy
* zero waste - almost all food was prepared from local organic gardens in Baja, no packaging, composting  or recycling.
* solar showers
* compost toilets (too much information?)
* sunrise-sunset-moonrise meditation
* yoga, massage, breathwork, pranadanda,
* swimming, kayaking, surfing

for 50 people for 3 nights we saved energy but more fun and regenerating was charging up
by being together with the elements.

Please join these coming weeks before Earth Day.

Dear Friends,

We are in the middle of the spring navaratri, the nine nights for Ma Shakti. This spring navaratri is more a visceral, living experience than ritual for me as we are on retreat with my root teacher, Daniel Odier, immersed in the movement meditation of Tandava four hours a day with Matsyendranath visualizations and Daniel's penetrating transmissions, lightness and humor. The space is amazing up in the mountains overlooking the sea. He will be at Exhale this weekend - you can come for one day or both!

If you are part of the spring living yoga sadhana group, we are adding a meditation this Sunday, April 1st culminating the Spring Navaratri. Shakti Fest - the Spring Bhakti Fest - is coming up as well as the Shakti Sadhana for women and Bom Siva for Men.

For the Yoga Trance Dance teacher training, we will be including my sessions in the Tadasana Festival which also includes a special offering to the ocean for Earth Day.
Yoga Energy Activism is till happening for Earth Day!  Check out new dates below for San Francisco and Washington D.C. for the Summer Solstice.

I am still in the labor of a long creative project that is slowly birthing itself over these next six weeks. The last part is the longest and most patient.

Our dear friend Chris Tompkins is going to Kashmir for a very important mission to copy never-before translated texts. If you have been moved by the wisdom of this tradition, please support his mission!

My deepest respect to all your creative endeavors and the sustaining power required.

Love All Ways!

Breath comes out, breath comes in, sinuous in itself.
Perfectly tuned to the breath, Kundalini, the Great Goddess, rises up.

She is the highest place of pilgrimage.

Spring Blessings from Maya Tulum!

Thursday, March 22, 2012
Dear Friends,

We have been meditating with the rising sun every morning over the ocean with our group from different parts of the world on retreat in Tulum. Some mornings the clouds are dark over the horizon and the sun light pierces through the back of the clouds to then fully emerge in a full circle of light. Other mornings, the blazing red fullness rises unobstructed in full glory.

Every morning gives a different teaching about the play of what is emerging even though obscured from our view. The play of shadow and light is what created the visual darshan (seeing through) of Kulkulkan - the Serpent of Light that emerged yesterday from the core of Chitzen Itza. Over an hour and a half the shadow on the Spring Equinox gradually shifts till the shadow from the jagged pyramid makes the shape of the serpent. When the triangles touch the stairs, people (mainly from all over Mexico) who are gathered raise their arms overhead like a spontaneous prana mudra.

Our group, with our guide Ochos, blew the conch for the four directions. We were ecstatic, hot and tired all at the same time, but it was the most powerful journey to feel the Spring Equinox illuminated through time that this seventh wonder of the New World created as the last pyramid of the Mayan civilization.

The people here again and again emphasize the commercialization of the Doomsday prophesy. The cycle renews itself and these important junctures of the Solstices and Equinoxes recognized by the Mayans and our ancestors is a way to remember this in deep time.

Spring Navaratri begins with the new moon today honoring the creative power of Shakti for the next ten days.  I will be offering Shakti sadhana at Exhale and at SHAKTI Fest - the spring version of Bhakti Fest. This is a very special festival of living Bhakti.  Please join us there with many other great souls here and all of the amazing festivals coming up.

We are working with Exhale to try to offer one-day passes for Daniel Odier (more soon).

Love from el corazon de feugo,

Spring Time Musings

Wednesday, March 14, 2012
Dear Friends,

Thank you to all of the participants in the Renewal of the Inner Fire retreat and local friends who came to class at Exhale.  I will be back in two weeks to celebrate Daniel Odier's return to California. This will be an intimate opportunity to be with Daniel so please register if you haven't already for this special workshop.
The rebirth of Spring is a week away - the three month marker of the new year and the half-way point of the Uttarayana cycle of increasing light. May we all stay grounded and dedicated to the creative field at this time. We will have a special Spring Equinox - Fall Equinox Living Yoga Sadhana program for the next 6 months to support each other during this most fertile time.

Chitzen Itza pilgrimage begins tomorrow for us...
We will send you some posts from Tulum.
Love all ways,

Daniel Odier Tandava Retreat: March 27 - 30

I venerate the spontaneous, tremoring, and wonderful words of my master who had me cross the Ocean of doubt.
May this jewel of knowledge lead all people to reach the true nature of reality, and may they keep this jewel in the deepest part of their heart.
- Spandakarikas verse 52, Daniel Odier

Don't miss this opportunity to be with this amazing teacher and transmitter of Lalita Devi's lineage - Daniel is rarely in the U.S.  His incredible translation of the Yoga Spanda Karika and Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, as well Tantric Quest and Desire have fertilized many people's path. The retreat will be held in an amazing private home above Solstice Canyon in Malibu  overlooking the mountains and the sea. It is a place of natural meditation, deep spaciousness and the absolute quiet of nature. During the week will go deeper into the sahaja practice of Tandava as well as Tantric meditations. The weekend will be a continuation of that process so please sign-up for both or join us at Exhale if you cannot make the deeper retreat for the week.

Daniel Odier ( teaches Kashmiran tantra from the Kaula tradition in accordance with the transmission he received from his master, the yogi Lalita Devi. This lineage goes back to the Mahasiddhas, and in particular to Matsyendranath, author of the Kaulajnananirna tantra.

This age-old tradition, closely linked to the shivaism of the Indus valley, teaches a form of yoga which has now virtually disappeared. It is a practice in three parts which unites sitting meditation with movement.

Body as Temple - Shivratri poem

The rich will make temples for Shiva. What shall I a poor man do?
My legs are pillars. The body the shrine
The head a cupola of gold.
O Lord of the meeting rivers
Things standing shall fall
But the moving ever shall stay.

-Basavanna, revolution Vira Saiva poet who made teachings available to all, women, men of all castes and backgrounds

Mahashivaratri Blessings!

Join us tonight as all prayers, mantra, meditation, the smallest of offerings are amplified with the New Moon of Shivratri as over a billion beings around the world offer their own form of sadhana. Some will fast all day and night staying up in the home or temples, some in silence, some in kirtan or mantra japa, some offering elaborate puja, some offering a simple fruit or flower. We will be in a hour process of meditation and mantra and some simple movement meditation for all.

With this new moon it is a beautiful time to clear your inner and outer space, listen to mantra or kirtan, read sacred texts, Shiva Sutras, YogaSpandakarikas, Shiva Puranas, take an energy regeneration retreat, take a break from all media, unplug at sundown and use only candle light or ghee lamps. Enjoy a ritual yoga practice and meditation, a japa walk with mantra, love your  family and friends and anyone you encounter as an emanation of the One.

Mahashivaratri is a time outside of time for realization and alignment with auspicious (one of the meanings of Siva) consciousness at the heart of all beings. Have a blessed night, day and new moon renewal

Love all ways,

Happy Valentine's Day!

Chant Om, the mantra of the love union of Shiva and Shakti
slowly and consciously.
Enter the sound and when it fades away, slip into freedom of being.

- Vijnana Bhairava Tantra translator Daniel Odier    February 14, 2012

Dear Friends,

Happy Valentine's Day...

Sending you Mojo Love that is the all-transforming power!

Love All Ways,

“Don't forget love;
it will bring all the madness you need
to unfurl yourself across the universe.”

― Mirabai

The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you, not knowing
how blind that was.

Lovers don't finally meet somewhere,
they're in each other all along.

Some Kiss We Want

There is some kiss we want with
our whole lives, the touch of

spirit on the body. Seawater
begs the pearl to break its shell.

And the lily, how passionately
it needs some wild darling! At

night, I open the window and ask
the moon to come and press its

face against mine. Breathe into
me. Close the language- door and

open the love window. The moon
won't use the door, only the window.

From Soul of Rumi

The Beloved is
inside you and also inside
me. You know the tree is hidden
inside the seed. Let your arrogance
go. None of us has gone
far. Inside love there is more
power than we realize.

Upcoming Shivaratri Celebrations & Retreats!

Monday, February 13, 2012
Dear Friends on the Path,

Monday, Somavar, is the day of the week connected with source energy of Siva and next week Maha Shivratri falls on the new moon which is auspiciously on Somavar, the day (var) of Soma, the sacred nectar that regenerates. In the iconography of Siva, Soma is the refined essence that pours from Siva's crown, outwardly as the river Ganga that cascades from his dreadlocks and inwardly through the bliss of meditation.

Ever since I lived in New Delhi for a year in 1990, I have been connecting to Monday as not the usual "monday humbug, back to work" but as a day for cultivating more lunar qualities such as reflection, regeneration (often now from a weekend of teaching or family fullness), relaxation and reclining - in which ever rhythm is possible. I notice being more relaxed on a monday (even in action) allows Tuesday - which is connected cross-culturally with the fire planet of Mars - to have more natural energy for the power of the week to unfold.

In India, people often have a special day of the week which is their sacred retreat time for them personally that is part of bringing the sacred rhythm through the week. For men or women who feel connected to the source through Siva, every Monday is a time to heighten their sadhana in their own way through both personal practice and in life including: meditation, circulation of mantra, yoga, ritual, fasting, eating only fruits or being vegetarian, connecting with their outer or inner temple and kindling their devotion, offering and realization within daily life - all of the main aspects which intensify in the all-night ceremony of Maha Shivratri.

On this extraordinary sadhana holy-day which brings the transformative aspects of yoga together, any one can tap into this great festival celebrated by over a billion people around the world.  Dave Stringer and I are offering a MahaShivratri sadhana next Sunday afternoon-evening followed on Monday by a Maha Shivaratri meditation and japa mala (free for all) as part of our Living Yoga Sadhana online program.

Don't miss the opportunity (particularly if you are local to California) to connect with one of my root teachers, Daniel Odier. I first connected with his translation of the Vijnana Bhairva Tantra some 18 years ago. He is a remarkable teacher and translator - an offering of his writings follow below which are wonderful for Shivratri.

Our Advance Vinyasa trainings in March, April and May, our Spring Equinox Pilgrimage to Chitzen Itza and camp out retreat in Baja are all offerings for tending your inner fire. I am a late coming Adele fan but "there is a fire burning in my heart" and celebrate the creative energy brewing in us all.

Yoga Rocks the Butte was an amazing community celebration! A special shout out to Monica Mesa and all of the amazing beings who made it all happen including prAna.

And enjoy your pre-Valentine's musings on your Beloved - inner and outer.  We will be sending you a Valentine's tomorrow.

Love all ways,

Our Yoga Trance Dance teacher training will take place inside this incredible Earth Day event where we will be launching our Yoga Energy Activtism Solar Latern Project (more info soon).

Also calling all locals on Feb. 19th for the  Maha Shivratri yoga and kirtan sadhana with Dave Stringer followed by a free tele call for all on Shivratri the next evening.

I will be on hiatus from Facebook and emails for the month of February other than the above.

May your creative rhythm be nourished and flourish.
Full Moon Blessings,

Join Shiva at Exhale this weekend & Serpent of Light Spring Renewal Retreat!

Tuesday, January 31, 2012
Dear Friends,

We are heading to the first of the eight fire festivals of the year - Imbolc on Feb. 1st - the six-week marker between the winter solstice and spring equinox.

Six weeks from that point we will be at Chitzen Itza and Maya Tulum to honor the power of the emergence of Spring.  In this newsletter, we are featuring the power of this healing place and our "Energy Regeneration Retreat for Householders" teacher training during our week of barefoot, sand, natural lights and mayan-yogic intersections as we honor the alchemy of the natural elements.

We will be offering a global online session from Maya Tulum as well as for the upcoming Shivaratri.
For my local friends, this week is my monthly practice intensive at Exhale culminating in a transformative evening for Movers and Shakers that is grounding and liberating and celebrating the Tadasana Festival coming to LA with co-founder Global Sonic DJ Fabian Alsultany.

I hope to see you in the flow
