Extraordinary Opportunities

Monday, May 21, 2012
Dear Friends,

I hope you were able to feel the annular solar eclipse yesterday, even if you weren't able to see it.  We were gathered in Venice and the fog that cam in allowed us to have a vision of the eclipse.  That rare alignment will not come again in southern CA until 2071 - a reminder to catch extraordinary opportunities when they come.

There are a few of these opportunities coming ahead: one is with being able to study the Siva Sutras with Dr. Paul Muller Ortega no matter where you are in the world.  This accessible online course of three sessions begins June 2nd.  Please see for more information and ways to connect with this master teacher of Shaiva Tantra and deep meditation.  His teachings have been an inspiration for me for many years and his classical Triadic Heart of Siva has been part of our reading list within our teacher training.

Another opportunity is to be with Chris Tompkins who is just back from Kashmir where he was able to bring back scanned copies of the ancient texts of the early Tantras that have never been translated.  He will be teaching this week during our teacher training and is offering a workshop this Sunday.  If you are local, it's not to be missed.

I will be offering a few public classes in the Chakra Vinyasa cycle this week before heading to film a DVD project in Santorini and Stonehenge.

Stoke your creative fires because this is the last waxing moon cycle in the Uttaryana (the period of increasing light).

Love All Ways,

Our mother is our first guru.

Dear Friends on the Path,

Celebrating the primal power of a mother's love and Shakti Ma everywhere.
Happy Mother's Day!  We are celebrating Shakti Ma in all beings at Shakti Fest this weekend.  Please see a glimpse into this amazing festival below!

This is putting a call out for the next 10 days for altar photos for a book project: Tending the Sacred Fire: Living in Rhythm with the Pulse of Life (SoundsTrue).  This book is a labor of love.  For the section on altars, I'd like to include small photos of people's personal altars.  Please see the call for photos below.

May love in all forms flourish.
Jai Ma!

"At the root of all power and motion, there is music and rhythm, the play of patterned frequencies against the matrix of time. We know that every particle in the physical universe takes its characteristics from the pitch and pattern and overtones of its particular frequencies, its singing. Before we make music, music makes us."
- Joachim-Ernst Berendt

Dear Friends,
Music is a form of yoga and yoga attunes one’s whole being to the underlying pulse. Music and yoga uplifts, deepen and shifts consciousness. We have been gathering around music and breath and movement and the power of celebratory play under the open sky for a long time.

We are headed to San Francisco this weekend with members of Hamsa Lila and wanted to let you know that besides Shakti Fest, Wanderlust is coming up too. For me, these are ways we stay connected to the larger pulse.

Sending you love for the Full Moon, for Buddha's Birthday.
Be a Lamp unto yourself.
Keep Blazing

Happy Beltane 2012

Tuesday, May 01, 2012
Dear Friends,

Beltane is the great bon-fire ritual-fest -  the last of the Spring awakening festivals - marking the half-way point between the Equinox and Summer Solstice some 6 weeks away from today. We had a beautiful gathering on the top of Corral Canyon culminating the men and women's gathering with our May Pole made from the land - the Yucca stalk and wild spring flowers (decorated with Genius by Lauren Hanna and Carole Westerman). The Maypole upon the earth is the Lingam-Yoni union of the masculine and feminine.

To celebrate this integration, we will be in an all-day immersion this coming Full-moon at Yoga Tree joined by Hamsa Lila members Vir McCoy and Evan Fraser. We will be offering this Tandava-Lasya as part of Shakti Fest in a few weeks - the great Bhakti festival in the desert.

Whereever you are, light a Beltane fire today or with this weekend's full moon, honor the shivalinga that you can see rising everywhere including in our own bodies, spine and heart.

Blessings in all directions,
